How to Match the Right Sized Paintballs to Your Paintball Barrel
By:

If you have one or two paintball barrels and several options of paint it is a good idea to match the paint to your paintball barrel to see which brand of paint will fit better.

Having the right size of paintballs to use with your barrel is important. For one youll have better accuracy and for two youre paintball gun will be more efficient. Paintballs are said to be .68 caliber but no one is perfect. Paintballs depending on the brand temperature and other factors tend to vary slightly in size. Some may be .689 some may be .681 and some may be anywhere in between. This little difference in size can have a large impact on your accuracy and efficiency. Having too big of paint for your barrel may cause more breaks. Too small of paint for your barrel may cause a drop in accuracy and use up more air to push the paintball out of the barrel. It takes more air to push the paintball out because their will be air escaping around the paintball when the gun is shot. The gap between a paintball that is smaller than the barrel it is inside of will let some air escape by it. This means you would have to increase your velocity and use more air.

To have better efficiency and accuracy youll need to find a brand of paint that fits well in your barrel. To find just the right fit of paintball to your paintball barrel take a paintball and set on the opening of your barrel (make sure its the end that screws into your gun). If the paintball rolls all the way through its too small. If it sits on top without going in at least halfway its too big. The ideal fit is to have the paintball sit halfway into the barrel. While the paintball is in the barrel blow air into it like you would a blow gun. The paintball should fly out of the barrel like a dart. If you cant blow it out its too big. It shouldnt take too much air to blow it out.

If no paintball fits its a good idea to have a few paintball barrels that each have different bore sizes. Something like the Freak Kit or any other kit that comes with different size barrel inserts can be nice to have as it helps you always to find the right fit for the paintballs you are shooting.

With the right paintball and barrel match you will have better accuracy and better efficiency. Youll be shooting straighter as well as getting more shots out of your paintball tank.
